  • arm yourself in the showroom

    Arm yourself in the showroom

It's a minefield once you walk into the dealer’s showroom! Buying a vehicle is an emotional experience. Once we fall in love with a vehicle, we already begin to take mental ownership of it. A good salesperson is keenly aware of these emotions and plays on them to his or her advantage.

But don't worry because we can help you fight back! You're walking into the showroom without preparing properly is like walking onto a tennis court to play against a pro. It's time someone levelled the playing field for you, and that’s us!

And timing and flexibility are your friend or your enemy when you are buying a new vehicle, so we will use those to maximum advantage in securing the you the best possible deal. We will widen the search to talk to dealers right around the country, or in some cases even overseas, to ensure we leverage the best possible result for you. You’d be surprised how big a difference there can be between dealers’ prices sometimes, for a whole multitude of reasons.

Let alone the impact the timing of your purchase can have. If the salesperson is struggling to make budget that month you’d be amazed how much better the deal might get if you wait until the last day of the month!
  • Our knowledge is your power

There's so much you don’t know that they do, but the good thing is we do too! How much the dealer paid the factory is one of the most critical things in negotiating a better price, and the good news is we know. How much and what incentives are the dealer giving them etc etc? Terms like sticker price, invoice price, holdback price probably all mean nothing to you – but all you need to know is they’re all part of their vocabulary and its all part of our vocabulary too ok! Ie We speak their language!

It can be also the fine details in things like the warranty scheme. Be wary of “free extended warranties”. Dealer warranties are rarely as comprehensive as manufacturer’s warranties and often carry a vital (and expensive) condition— that you always service the car at that dealership for the period of the warranty. Also be wary of fabulous trade-in offers for your old car. There is no such thing as a free lunch especially when it comes to buying a car, so if the trade-in sounds too good to be true, it is!. There’s nothing surer than you’re paying too much in another way..

  • Lease VS Buy

One of the fundamental decisions you may need to make (especially if it is for a business) is whether you should lease or buy the vehicle, and this is an area we can very much help you with. Each situation is unique and the decision to buy or lease must be made on a case-by-case basis.

We help people to negotiate on lease arrangements as well as for purchases - everything in this world in negotiable! So either way we are in your corner ok!

Regardless of your decision to buy or lease or hire-back, and regardless of the overall cost to you, it is crucially important to always keep quality front and centre in your mind. Your aim should always be to get a vehicle that meets all of your criteria, not just price. Remember, saving a few dollars now might come back to really hurt you later!
    lease vs buy
  • Why Buy?

The most obvious advantage of buying is that, after you purchase the vehicle, you gain full ownership of it. However, purchasing may not be an option for you if the initial outlay is too high. Even if you plan on borrowing the money and making monthly payments, most banks require a significant deposit of around say 20%. If you do make the decision to buy outright, once you have weighed everything up, then you still of course have options available to you!

Rather than buying new, you could consider buying used, if you can find one in good condition, as often the saving may be very significant.

  • Why Lease?

Leasing a vehicle can be a better option for people who have limited funds, or people who need to upgrade every few years (ie a business fleet). The primary advantage of leasing is that it allows you to acquire the vehicle with minimal initial outlay. Because leases often don’t even require any down payment, you can obtain the vehicle you need without significantly affecting your cash flow.

Another financial benefit of leasing vehicles (for a business) is that your lease payments are usually deductable as business expenses, reducing the net cost of your lease. In addition, leases are usually easier to obtain and have more flexible terms than taking a loan to buy outright.
    why lease?
  • Or Hire Purchase?

Leasing has two main disadvantages though - overall lifetime cost and lack of ownership. With regard to lifetime cost, leasing a vehicle is of course almost always more expensive than purchasing it. In addition to the higher cost, you will have built up no actual ownership/equity in the vehicle, ie once your lease expires it’s not yours any more (although sometimes this can be negotiated with a buyout clause).

Another downside to leasing is the risk that you may be obligated to keep making payments for the entire lease period, even if you stop using the vehicle for any reason.

Rather than leasing, an alternative arrangement known as Corporate Hire Purchase (CHP) is often a better option, particularly for businesses.

CHP is especially suited to businesses that need to finance a fleet of vehicles and want to own them outright at the end of the agreement, while preserving their working capital. Under this structure, you buy the vehicle and hire it back over an agreed period, but at the end of the term when all repayments have been made you are the full owner (as opposed to a lease when it is still not owned by you).

  • add-on costs

    Avoid the upsell

Then of course there are all the 'add-on costs' they will try to squeeze out of you to add to their profits! Some are legitimate but some might not be – I know you'll be shocked if I tell you that vehicle salesman aren't always scrupulously honest! And of course you need to make sure the final price you are getting is a true full onroad cost, no hidden extras!

How you pay for it matters too of course – they will do their best to make more by signing you up for financing deals you don’t really understand.

So, for all these reasons and lots more, we’d recommend you just concentrate on deciding on the vehicle you love.. and then let us do the rest ok! It really will save you a lot of hassle, time and money, and you get your weekends to yourself ok. Remember, we buy vehicles for people all the time and what’s more we love it! Do you?!
